Using Social Networks in Mexico Can Get You Murdered!‏

A woman in Mexico has been killed in recent days as retaliation for her postings about a specific drug cartel on a social network. This is the third individual killed within the span of a few weeks by the Zetas drug cartel. Their first victims was a man and a woman who reported drug violence on a blogging website. Their bodies were found hanging from a bridge in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico with this chilling warning: “This is going to happen to all of those posting funny things on the internet. You better (expletive) pay attention. I’m about to get you.” .

Mexican officials have been battling drug gangs when the newly elected president Felipe Caleron declared all out war on drugs on December of 2006. Unfortunately the road of progress has been difficult and many innocent lives have been lost; the war may prove harder than originally thought.
